STUDENT-ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: DIVINE WILLIAMS AND CALEN GIRARD, CREC ACADEMY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

We are so proud of our partnership with CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering High School in Enfield, Connecticut. Through this 2nd & 7 program, members of the basketball, baseball, track & field, softball, football and volleyball teams are visiting with the 2nd graders at neighboring CREC Museum Academy six times this school year. Today, we are excited to feature athletes Divine Williams and Calen Girard. With their help, the 2nd grade students are seeing firsthand the importance of reading and working hard in school.

Divine Williams is a 10th grader and member of the track and field and indoor track teams. Other interests include reading, drawing and crocheting. As Divine is finishing her 1st year as a 2nd & 7 volunteer, she shares, "I love being able to talk to the younger kids and help them to become better readers. The 2nd & 7 Reading Program has given me an opportunity to grow and understand my purpose as a role model to youth.”

Calen Girard, is a 9th grader and member of the indoor track, football and basketball teams, also finishing his 1st year as a 2nd & 7 volunteer. Calen is interested in pursuing a career in business. He shares, "I love being able to talk and interact with the second graders. They are really fun to be around and our visiting them means a lot to them."

Our 2nd & 7 huddle is strong thanks to athlete volunteers like Divine and Calen!
