Columbus Kids' Book Fair and Woodcrest Elementary in Columbus

Last Wednesday, I accompanied 2nd & 7 to a book fair, held at Woodcrest Elementary School, in partnership with Diamond Hill Capital Management's day of service. What stuck out to me about this visit was that Woodcrest is the only year-round school in Columbus City Schools; I had never heard of a year-round elementary school, and it was interesting to me.

During the book fair, students from Pre-K to 5th grade were invited to pick a book to take home, as well as partake in activities such as making their own bookmarks. The kids were thankful and excited, to say the least, to have their very own books. “I really get to keep this?” is a comment I heard from a 2nd grade student who was already examining and opening her book.

These books are gifts to young readers, and it is very rewarding to see the happiness in every face in the room and a book in every little pair of hands. Books were also brought by 2nd & 7 to be used in the Woodcrest reading room, a cute forest-themed area set up by Diamond Hill where students can spend time reading. With a total of nearly 600 books gifted and distributed by 2nd & 7 and Diamond Hill, an incredible impact was made on Woodcrest Elementary school and its young students.
