A Columbus City School received an exciting visit from the Columbus Crew soccer team, accompanied by 2nd & 7. Players were spread around the school in kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms to read to the students, as well as sharing with them the importance of reading. Students also got to meet the mascot character of the Columbus Crew, Crew Cat, as well as 2nd & 7’s Hog Mollie, Harley!
A goal of the staff at this elementary school is to get students to be able to read at their reading level. This visit from the Columbus Crew served as a way to get students excited to read, as well as leave them with a lesson about how important it is to read and be good students.
A total of about 450 books in both English and Spanish were donated by 2nd & 7 and distributed to students at the Columbus City school. All in all, this event supports our mission of tackling illiteracy by providing reading material and good role models, while encouraging student athletes to pay it forward. It was an exciting day for 2nd & 7 to partner up with the Columbus Crew, as well as for the students to meet the athletes and mascots.
