This holiday season, 2nd & 7 is excited to kick off our Season of Giving book drive! We’ll be spreading the joy of reading this winter by collecting donations of new and gently used K-6 books. Our goal is to ensure that every child in our community has their very own book!
Studies from 2024 show poor levels of literacy in young students in Ohio: 40 percent of third graders in the state “aren’t hitting literacy benchmarks.” Another study shows similar results: fewer than half of third graders were proficient at reading with only 42 percent showing proficiency. These statistics are concerning, and we are determined to aid in the fight against illiteracy.
Our hope with this program is to inspire young readers, bring awareness to the growing issue of illiteracy, and provide reading material to kids in our community from generous book drive hosts. The Season of Giving book drive aims to do exactly that, and we are looking forward to making a lasting impact.
