We are excited to feature Nick Westbrook as our Student-Athlete of the Week! Nick plays football at Indiana University and is a senior, majoring in Business Marketing. Nick is distinguished for his performance on and off of the field, as a Campbell Trophy nominee, an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee and a Wuerffel Trophy nominee. Nick shares, "I like the opportunity to impact a young person's life. To be able to give a kid in class, that may be a little shy, some confidence by spending time with him could go a long way."

We are excited to feature twins from Big Walnut High School as our Student-Athletes of the Week! Alexis and Avery Schone are senior soccer and basketball team members. Both have played a significant role in our reading program outreach for 3 years. Alexis shares, “My favorite part is being able to read and interact with the kids. I love seeing their faces light up when we come in and how excited they get”.  Avery states, “I love being able to give back to the elementary schools. I also enjoy seeing how happy the kids are when different sports teams come to read to them”.

Internship Reflection: Devin Zeisset

Summers are never long enough. The beginning of May and the excitement of starting a new internship seems like a not-so-distant memory. Working as an intern with 2nd & 7, I learned a lot: how to form press releases and contact the media, how to interview individuals and tell their stories through writing, how nonprofits interact with the community and spread their messages. However, the most valuable lesson I learned from 2nd & 7 is that people are the most important aspect of any mission—building a team of like-minded and hard-working people is paramount for success. From my first day with the foundation, Amy, Janet, Stephanie and Ryan welcomed me like an old friend, immediately making me feel like a member of the 2nd & 7 family. The board members arrived at the office, the gala, the football camp, and whether it was unpacking boxes or coordinating events, they worked with enthusiasm. When they could have spent their time in any number of ways, volunteers and student athletes traveled across the city to read, teach and influence our youth.
